RIP Dan Wheldon. He was due to partner James Courtney this weekend in the Gold Coast 600.I'm guessing he would of been flying out after the race to attend the test day for the international drivers on Wednesday at QR.A very sad day in motorsport circles around the world. Will Power who was to partner Frosty was also involved in the accident but escaped serious injury. He has been withdrawn from the weekends event and will be replaced by Richard Lyons.A memorial tribute will be held on Saturday at the Gold Coast 600 for Dan Wheldon.

Terrible accident. The (sustained) speeds in those cars now is insane and you can't help but feel this was coming.

RIP, and glad to see V8SC tribute.

Any word on Courtney's new partner, must be quite distressing for HRT.

V8s and teams plan tributes to Wheldon

    SpeedCafe

V8 Supercars will hold a special tribute for Dan Wheldon at this weekend’s Armor All Gold Coast 600.
Wheldon, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, was killed in a multi-car accident at Las Vegas Motor Speedway yesterday.
V8 Supercars chairman Tony Cochrane has said that there will be a unique tribute to Wheldon’s life on the Saturday morning of race meeting.
“Dan was very well known to many of us and a good friend to many of us,” Cochrane said.
“So, as we have tragically, unfortunately done in the past, we will hold a special memorial service to Dan on the track Saturday morning in recognition of his great service to motorsport and to acknowledge and give our teams and people involved in our family, the V8 Supercar family, the opportunity to say in their way their goodbyes.”
Other tributes include a plan to run a special decal tribute on each V8 Supercar, similar to the ‘Christchurch’ stickers after the devastating earthquakes in February.
There will also be individual tributes seen across the weekend.
Wheldon’s good friend Marino Franchitti, as well as fellow British Racing Driver Club members Oliver Gavin (#11 Pepsi Max Crew) three-time WTCC champion Andy Priaulx (#888 TeamVodafone) and Richard Westbrook (#7 Jack Daniel’s Racing), will be honouring the memory of Wheldon with black armbands and a message on their race helmets.
