    Default 205/65/15 Best allround tyre

Time for a new set of rubber for the EF. I am interested in your thoughts on the best tyre choice. Looking for good grip quite ride and reasonable life span. Car is used primarily on bitumen and driven mainly at legal speeds. Any thoughts appreciated.

I'd go with Dunlop Sport 300E. It'll give you exactly what you need - good grip, quiet ride and good wear.

And thanks for the positive feedback. It's been covered before but how many of us do you think actually test every tyre on the market?

I had a couple of Maxxis UA something or others on my EB that had good wear, were quiet, gripped fairly well even when wet and weren't too bad on the dirt either. Now is that more helpful enough? The standard goodyear eagles were noisy, and didn't last that long, some dunlop le-mans were better till half way down the tread and then in typical dunlop fashion weren't worth much and I sold the car with some bridgestones on it and they were doing fine on the mostly dry roads I typically drive on but were so flash on wet roads.
The Maxxis were picked up accidently as spares really after a bad trip but I was really impressed by how much of an all rounder they were.

The UA603 is actually a pretty good tyre. Wouldn't rank them as high as the 300Es but they're pretty much better than just about anything else in the same class, even than some dearer tyres. Maxxis is currently the most underrated tyre on the market.

do you get the "new" Firestone Wide Ovals in Oz? I think they are NZ-made, but happy to be corrected on that

If so, how do you rate them? esp compared with your recommended Dunlop 300E

I heard one good report about them over here in NZ

We don't get the Wide Oval in the size in Australia. I doubt it'd outgrip a 300E though. Those things have oodles of grip.

Turbo Nick we do get the firestone wide oval in Aust check with Bridgestone Australia Ltd they will be able to tell you

Id either got with the Bridgestone 205/65r15 Er592 fantastic tyre all round or go up a size 225/60r15 (its the same OD s the 205 but wider) G111 or its replacement as it was a good tyre as well but can be a bit noisy when near the end of its tread life

Have you considered the Good Year LS2000?
We've had much positive feedback on the performance of the tyre in varying conditions though it's still a bit early to comment on treadwear yet.

Hmmm I thought we only had that deal going on the LS2000's you just squeaked in there too, I think that deal just expired lol.
The Ducaro is a pretty good tyre in any case The ones I had on my EB performed pretty well.

Ducaros are not bad but not as good as the 300E. Yeah, I've got my favourites and I tend to stick by them. hehe

Oh don't worry, I'm totally with you on the 300E's I had them before I went to 17's on my AU
I'm currently using the Federal S95's which seem to be performing very well indeed, I'm thinking of trying Toyo's next (gotta keep up the product testing )

the A-drives are nice, though I like their C-drives and their dB range better, but then you've got some extra $$ there too.

The only time RE92s and the word 'grip' should be used in the same sentence is when you're talking about the lack of it. haha

The tyre's something like 15 years old and well past its use-by date.

Turbo Nick, I've followed your advice, thanks:

    4 new 300E 215/60x16 on Falcon
    2 new 300E 205/65x15 on Camry

nice quiet tyre, good grip. Noticeably quieter than old Viexx Falkens...

I've finally hit the wear markers on my Dunlops (they are still going OK, no grip in a straight line, but enough lateral grip), so I'm also looking at 205/65R15's. Had a good price for the Turenza's, and having had a preferance for Bridgestones in the family.

Are they really as good as they seem, or would they be only a mild improvement over the dunlop SP2000's?

I've heard good reports on the ER592 since my last post in this thread so I think they'll crap all over the SP200s
