    hello bass you really know your fords xtremely well . i have a 95 ef falcon petrol/gas with 723000km under her belt [ex taxi] which still runs,drives beautiful, but about a year ago went 2 start it 1 morning and BOOOOOOOOOOOM!! Rocker cover blown 2 bits[small dent in bonnet] and the sump blown clean off. replaced both then had 2 different gas people go over everything twice but niether could find a fault WTF?? everything was working properly . got nervous when starting eversince but it been a year since it happened. how/why did it happen when all 3 gas shutoff solenoids were working, or was it fuel that leaked in2 motor . i had washed the car the previous evening.

    hi bass, after reading your posts it's obvious you know you're stuff regarding fords...i'm trying to find the sealing compound used between the meeting faces of the rear end bearing cap & block on an ef 6 cyl...also, can you pop the rear main seal in while installing the crank caps?...or do you press it in after torquing the rear cap down?...the engine i have had a sealant can't tell me, the engine reco guy does'nt know & my manual does'nt say....also, no mention of the filter set into the front of the block behind the timing case for the timing chain tensioner...i blew the oil galleries out with air & it flew there anything behind the filter i need to know about?....i can't find anything...spring ect, but i'd rather ask a pro than rebuild everything incorrectly & learn the hard way...any advice is very much appreciated :o)
  4. 5000kms a week, what do you do?? im a courier and i do 1500kms a week.. i love driving and cant find a job to do 5000kms a week!!!
  5. hi there, extractors are a funny thing, the stock manifold will give you the torque bottom end, if your gonna revv the crap out of it extrators will be useful. but for the highway the stock exhaust is ideal. extractors do help in the EB ED EF EL V8's as the headers were very restrictive. but the 6 is quite good. on 65L of petrol i got 620km's in a 6 and a 8 on the highway so on 80L you should be getting 750+ on petrol. i think the wagon is 80L. but the gas should be getting at least 500km's on the tank on the highway, all depending on the system. the oxygen sensor would have a big impact on the economy in your case. gas tuning monitors the O2 levels and on petrol too.

    Hi Bass,
    Have been a long time lurker and really enjoyed reading all your posts. I was hoping to get a bit of advice from you. I have a stock 98 EL GLI wagon, quite happy with performance, but i drive pretty big miles in this car (5,000km last week) and was wondering what mods are worthwhile to improve mileage? am looking to add cruise shortly, is it worth modifying the airbox? extractors?

    currently have an 80L LPG tank and full size fuel tank, getting about 1100km out of both. head was replaced with an exchange reconditioned one last year, blows no smoke, very smooth and plenty of power. Would appreciate any thoughts you have!
