Post Shane Van Gisbergen to leave V8 Supercars...

It's just been announced in New Zealand (Radio Station Newstalk ZB) that Shane Van Gisbergen is leaving V8 Supercars at the end of season to return back to New Zealand.
No word yet on his plans once he gets here.

Been rumoured for a few weeks (or more) over this side of the ditch.

There's more to this story to come out. Any ideas?

    - family reasons
    - MB tie-up (surely not)
    - other racing opportunity not yet able to be announced?
    Current Rides:
2014 VF Commodore SSV Redline Manual
    2013 VW Touareg 180TDI

Still, I've owned plenty of Fords before......

I find it hard to believe he would have found a better wicket. Maybe he got bored. The category is these days IMO. New makes may generate a little bit more interest, for a while, but they'll get stomped for a couple of years by Holden unless CAMS give them a wide berth in terms of ''parity''. He should have a go at NASCAR. That's where its at these days. Ambrose paved the way.

I'm wondering if there are family reasons - The last sentence of Ross Stone's Press Release - "“I ask that the media and public give Shane and his family the privacy they require at this time,” said Stone."

Rumour here is that he'll have a go at Drifting and our new V8 Supertourers - http://www.v8st.co.nz
John MacIntryre (Shane's 2010/11 Enduro Co-Driver) runs a two car team here - Steven Richards drove the second car and that seat is now vacant.

Interesting. It just seems hard to believe such a young guy would leave the "biggest game in town" and head for something "simpler". But maybe that's all there is to it.
