Has anyone replaced the indicator cover within the side mirror, I have broken mine, picked up a new one today. The manual states that its dealer serviceable only. Any help would be great.

I've not had to replace one yet but ,
The new one should give some clues as to how it is attached .
Does it have tabs or fingers with or without barbed ends ?
Barbs generally indicate a ,' lever it out just push in the new one ' type of fit , by far the easiest .
If no barbs then if it has fingers , it most likely is glued into place , this would mean remove the mirror to get access .
    Or ,
A thought , the Micro Cat , go to the dealer and look on the spare parts Micro Catalogue , that may well show the relationship of the various parts ,
and then with that and the appearance of the new part it should not be overly difficult to work it out , yeah ?

Last resort , break up and remove the existing cover , small pieces at a time , from the outside of course .
As it breaks up , as the bits come off , it should show how it was put together / the assembly sequence .
The process is always simple ,

It looks like I will need to remove the outer cover on the mirror, eg the painted section on the Wildtrak or the Chrome section on the XLT, the new indicator is a one piece unit with the tabs behind the cover.
If I have no luck I will wait for the 15000klm service and get the dealer to install.

I see the tabs on top , are there any on the bottom ( I would think so but pointing in ) ,
It looks like it would be glued or welded in on assembly , that's a bugger but , not impossible to work with .
As above , break it out bit by bit , the hard part is getting the spaces or slots for the tabs , free or clean to accept the new one .
A coupla dabs of super glue will hold the new one in .

    Hi Muddy,
If you have some basic electrical smarts it is an easy unit to install and takes about 30 minutes, all done via the little glove box doofa below the steering column.

Once fitted when you hit you keyfob to lock the door the mirrors move inboard (same as hitting the button on the dashboard).

I have some modules on hand if you are interest, price is still the same.

If you want (pm me your email address) I'll send you the wiring instructions so that you can decide for yourself if you think you are capable of installing it (or show your auto leccy guy and get a qoute for install).

    Cheers.

If you have any electrical knowledge or know some one it is easy as DIY.
All you need is to connect a double pole auto relay to be controlled by ignition switch, this would hook into your mirror switch wiring.....be a good weekend arvo project.

    Cheers.

Will they fit the XLS? I would assume?? that the wiring loom is there somewhere but not optioned for the XLS mirror closure

If you have the loom I guess you could fit the folding mirrors & the aftermarket Remote loom/circuitry but going by other owners who try to upgrade base models have found certain looms were omitted.

Dealer spare parts should be able to answer your query regarding this matter.

If you wired the mirrors via a 2 pole relay to the ignition for auto open/close, would there then be no manual option to use the dash button while driving?
Reason I ask is when I've negotiated some of Melbourne's tight lanes for work I sometimes fold them in, so manual functionality is definitely handy in that scenario. Old ladies lookin' at the Ranger like it was a Delorian today when I tucked 'em in...

Really looks trick/pimp doing it with the remote on the YouTube vid

There is aftermarket kit available for Auto/manual controls which is Programmable, this is available on this forum. http://newranger.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=2754

I prefer to leave mine as is.

I like the manual way as is, however, the auto functionality would be kinda cool / convenient in shopping centre carparks etc.
Thanks for the link, I'll have a squiz.

    Ebay...

Only difference is that you connect it to the central locking actuator instead of to the accessories...
