Default New ford ranger suspension upgrade

    Hi guys,

I bought a new ford ranger nov 2011. Ive been off road a few times and not happy about a few things. Ive scratched all along the bottom of the front bumper as the approach angle was not as good as I thought and there was no turning back. Also standard tyres are shocking in mud/clay even with the factory diff lock.

Im looking at getting a suspension upgrade, bullbar and some bigger and better tyres.

What I need to know is how high can I go with suspension without voiding warranty?

maccas, lol can't blame anyone about the scratches . . . actually, I can't wait to do some damage to front and rear bars, soon as that happens to any degree, off they come and some custom pipe will be added.
That dang rear towbar can go too, so uselessly low.

Mine only has 23k odd km after 8-1/2 months, and not a scratch on it . . . well a bit of pinstriping, but nothing that won't buff out : )

This is despite taking it to some fairly decent off road locations around South Aust.

Ok suspension, go for 40mm to 50mm only, that should be legal Aust wide, and not be too high as to cause CV, tailshaft, or bumpstop probs.
I went Rock Crawler constant 400kg leafs and torsions, with Ranch 9000 adjustable shocks.
Ended up leaving front at 25mm, and rear 40mm, so when loaded up for a trip it sits nice and level, and performs well on and off road.

If you want more clearance, you can upgrade to bigger wheels / tyres for total clearance, or a bit of body lift for extra ramp over etc.

    Cheers,
    Les

Thanks for the info Les. I went and checked out OL in newcastle here and looking at getting some acc when they are available. Xrox bar, winch and LED spotty. Apparently suspension not available yet, checked at arb, tjm and OL. Where did u get your susoension from and how much did it cost?

    Sorry Maccas, my bad.
    You've got the PX I take it . . .

When I saw New ford ranger susp etc, I thought it meant general upgrade from std to new, and Nov 11 didn't click either as PKs were still going out the doors.

Be careful with the PX, I did read somewhere that any lift can interfere with traction and stability controls, but that you should be able to get Ford to adjust . . . ah, here 'tis http://www.4wdaction.com.au/forum/vi...25924&viewrint

Oh, re your stock tyres, are they the Dunlops still ? (Grandtrek AT22 on the PKs).
These are a great general track tyre, and are really good on sand, but if you're doing tracks in forests, in the wet, etc, you will need some muddies.

I have started with some 2nd hand rims, and will kit these with some Maxxis Bighorns, then swap out if heading to Vic alps etc.

    Cheers,
    Les
