    Default My (Mushroom) Escort Panelvan

So I figured that, being on this forum for long enough I may as well start a thread on my 1976 Mushroom Beige Escort Panelvan.

I bought the car mid last year with the intentions of doing it up. it was registered and roadworthy but looked very tired and had a bit of rust.
I can now say towards the end that if you dont have the money readily available it isnt really worth buying a project car, but I somehow managed to get through the difficult bits and i am more then happy with the result.

Since buying I have discovered that it is the first of the mk2 escorts assembled in Australia (homebush I think) and that mine is a fully optioned 1.6 XL van. It has the factory ford rally pack spot lights with some cool mesh covers on it and the oroginal brackets and wiring, along with a GHIA adjustment mirror, factory tacho dash, wider wheels (now gone and replaced by genuine bathurst globes), sports steering wheel, swaybar and, something that isnt normally noticed but goes along with the year model of the car, the ford escort 40 badge on the back right door (rather then seperate badges on both doors.

The car has been semi-restored to original condition, with the mushroom beige paint colour (not the most desirable colour now a days but i wouldnt have it any other colour now), original engine with 150xxx on the clock, original box and diff. everything changed on this car is easily replaceable with the original gear though in my opinion matches the car now its on.
I have tried to keep as much as is tolerable original and i have pretty much cleaned up everything, paint up things to make it look new. the only thing is the back load area isnt original, though easily replaceable.

So, I hope you like it, can give me some advice on it and more or less appreciate how far its come on such a limited budget.
The car is an absolute hoot and I dont think I would have any other car (I just wish i wasnt so afraid to drive it in the rain! haha)

    Hey there,

The director of my company bought your panelvan! It now resides in Melbourne, it arrived this morning.
Such a clean car and its a credit to you.

I own a 76 4 door and it has been off the road for 5yrs and seeing this van is getting me motivated to get mine back on the road.

just thought i would drop you a line.

    Cheers
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
    That's awesome news!
I'm so glad it has made it down to him safely in one piece, though I never thought I would hear about my car again so you caught me off guard haha.
Thanks for the kind words and any updates you have for me on the old girl I'd love if you would let me know. I really do miss her so much
    Cheers
    Nick
