I would be interested in this too if someone could shed some light on it, was under the impression that it would not work on EF's, maybe I have the wrong info
    Cheers

well back when i first started driving fords the only way to find a fault with the engine, transmisson was to probe the ecu with a multimeter to get the fault code for the problem which also included counting the flashes to get the code for the problem then looking it up in the workshop manual but just recentley have i found out about this new technology im in the process of buying a scanner that will be compatible with falcons ea-el and na fairlanes and ltds its a 3 digit display unit that will show the code without having to do any counting which is a little bit simpler but thats as far as i know at this point

I just had a look at the article online and it says it's for OBDII, so i am amusing all the parts software etc will not be relevant to E series machines

    Cheers

The 3 digit scanner is made by a member of the fordmods forum and sold either thru that forum or ebay. Current OBDII scanners (as found on ebay) are not compatible with the e-series fords data stream so you will be wasting your time and money.

Best thing to do is either purchase the scanner made by the fordmods member or cut a plug from an EF/EL BEM and solder some resistor/leds to the relevant wires. Then just count the flashes. This is what I did with my diagnostic unit. Trip to the wreckers and some bits from tricky ****y. Saves shorting things out at the diagnostic connector.

see http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/f...ad.php?t=40780 for simple test circuit.

Ford didn't even try proper OBD standard compliance until the AU (because of a mandate by law), so for an EB-I doubt it.
