Lightbulb fg xr6 - cheap diy air intake + photos

gday all, first off sorry for large photos

bought a k&n filter yesterday so today went to fit it.
while i was at it i also had a crack at two little booster bits to increase air flow, so thought id post up what i did incase anyone else wants to save their hard earned coin on aftermarket stuff. got the idea because i was going to buy the ss inductions bigmouth inlet. so i thought why not make my own??

inside the air box lid there is a reducer to restrict airflow into the inlet tube. it just simply pulls out and opens up the inlet pipe a fair bit. here is a pic of the reducer and where it was placed:

then installed the k&n which is self explanatory

then grabbed some tin snips, heat gun, and a 100mm pvc 88 degree elbow from the ute and made this:

took about 10-15 mins. not the neatest but i didnt have much more time its all hidden anyway

    coat of cheap paint:

and no-one is none the wiser:

next is the v8 lower airbox and snorkle and il be happy with that for inlet air did notice the car is smoother through the rev range and doesnt feel like its choking as much which felt quite noticeable in the manual.
and frankly any improvement is a good improvement imo

    cheers for looking

I found the restrictor in my intake about 4 months ago. Some threads on here about it. Good job on the mods. Look at changing your speakers too. Use a dremel and cut out the ****ty speakers and install some 6.5in spilts to replace them.

Hot glue gun / screw them into the retainers. Done

Then Dynamat.!!! Makes your doors solid as a merc.

speakers are definately on the cards. the factory ones are fair crap il agree with you there, nothing worse than bad quality audio.

i hadnt seen anything about the restrictor, but i bet you were as surprised as me when you pulled it out haha

What did you make the air scoop from? Is it a sewer pipe elbow?

haha coca-cola colour. yea its wicked in the sun. in the shade its dull, gets most people thinking its black until they see it in sun. i like it thought. bit different to my blueprint ba.

the little scoop is just a pvc elbow. yes what you would use for sewerage, as it bends under heat and when cools goes rock hard ahain. perfect for working with.

f350, as for the group buy, wish i still had holidays left to be able to tinker around, but back to work for me unfortunately. its very easy to do i wouldnt want to charge people for them. pvc fitting is only worth about $5-7 so its just having spare time to make them. someone might come up with a better example from the idea. and no probs with the airfilter, thought you'd be right with it.

    cheers

I like that colour. To be honest I would never buy a dark one again. Too much to keep it clean aroun here. (Steelworks and all).

But yeah I would be interested to see the airbox lid of a Turbo or V8 to see what they have tucked in the intake pipe.

This will give you an idea of the colour. As the OP said in the shade it looks anything between Brown and Black. In the sun it goes from Burgundy to maroon, t's a wicked colour I love it. But a bugger to keep clean

Fantastic colour ... no doubt about it. It looks so much like Walnut Glo from the 72 XA. Unfortunately, I have no photos of my XA to compare, so it only my memory to go by.

    Hi Murph
    Good to see ya.
    Hows your car going?

Still failing to see any real drop in fuel economy in mine. I think its my wifes lead boots. She used to tease me about her never having got a speeding fine. But 2 weeks ago my dreams came true and she was nabbed !!! NOt that i liked paying the fine but i dont have to listen to that crap anymore

I been busy doing lots of things. Looking at starting up a new company selling camper trailers so that is taking a lot of my time. If you want one ill do you a special rate

Anyway ill come back soon for a look to see whats happening here.
    See ya mate

Ahhhh awesome mate, I miss our long chats we use to have
As by chance, I'm looking for a caravan to rent for a minimum of 4 weeks, possibly upto 6 weeks, as I'm getting married and my parents are coming to stay with us for an extended holiday. The caravan wouldn't be towed the whole time it is in our care, it would just be parked up on our back lawn.
So if ya know anyone who would like to make some easy money over the winter and has a spare caravan lying around, let me know!!!!
