how to check timing on el falcon

i was just wondering how to adjust my timing. i have a timing light but have been told with the el you have to disconnect or connect something not sure any help appreciated

You need to short out the left hand side pins on the diagnostic connector.
Behind the fuse panel cover there's a plug with 20 or so pins. Join the left hand side top pin to the left hand side bottom pin with a small alligator clip or something to get the car running in base timing mode.
Then it's just a matter of using your timing light and loosening the dizzy bolt to adjust if necessary.

Is this necessary when tuning an EF as well??

The EF doesn't have a distributor, so I don't know. I've only had to adjust the timing on ELs
