Default Stuck in gear 3 ("Limp mode")

Hi all, I recently acquired a 95 Falcon GLI and the auto transmission is stuck in 3rd gear. It won't shift up or down. This problem has been around for the past few days. According to the owner's manual, this is known as limp mode. What are the causes for the vehicle to be in limp mode for a prolonged period? I am really stumped by this.

there are literaly hundreds of things that will cause the computer to trip into limp mode. far too many to diagnose here and without a diagnostic computer.

Now it seems that the brake light switch is faulty too. The brake lights do not come on at all even though the globes are good and the wiring is fine.

Where can I find the brake light switch? It may need to be reinstalled.

Buy a brake light switch from Repco, they are a common failure item. It is attached to the brake pedal where the master cylinder rod is attached.

Where is it exactly found? Inside the driver's cabin or the engine bay?

anyway, I was tinkering with the solenoid for the transmission the other day. I thought it was back to normal, but went back into limp mode after just 5 minutes.

On the brake pedal. As stated. Get on your back under the dash.

I just bought the stop light switch from Repco. Are there any diagrams showing how exactly to replace the faulty switch?

go back to repco and get your self a workshop manual. Best $30 you'll spend on your car.
