Cheer up guys out world is run by folks who do believe in Armageddon are
and also nuclear armed. Im retiring from my old job as if war
broke out- I'll be dead- in seconds. I don't think we'll even have time
to scramble. America is sure spending allot of money in a anti-ballistic
    missile system lately.

We have a dictator on the brink of nukes, striving to accelerate the Apocalypse. . . . Paradise beckons."

Oil and conflict- the dangerous mix.

Japan attacked America after all over oil issues...

China also lacks local oil supplies.

Russian long range overflights are now official.

Quote-In last week's incident near Guam, the Russian pilots "exchanged smiles" with US fighter pilots who scrambled to track them, a Russian general said.

The US military confirmed the presence of the Russian bombers near Guam, home to a large US base.

Last month two Tupolev 95 aircraft - dubbed "bears" according to their Nato code-name - strayed south from their normal patrol pattern off the Norwegian coast and headed towards Scotland. Two RAF Tornado fighters were sent up to meet them.

Russian bombers have also recently flown close to US airspace over the Arctic Ocean near Alaska.

The showdown on missile sites in Czech Republic and Poland continues
as both the US and Russia head for talks which I think will be futile.
With what is happening in the Arctic, The Pacific and Indian well...
the prognosis is not good at present.

Why do they have to turn Eastern Europe into a battlefield again. Don't
distrub the old graves on the Russian Front- we don't need another.

well what do you know- both parties seem at loggerheads on the issue,
maybe Russia should move some MRBM's to Venezuela if the US insist

    vs

Russian space based weapons to take on US Missile Shield. Looks like the advantage has been nullified long ago...Maybe its a big waste of money.
Its cheaper to build more nuclear weapons to overwhelme such a shield
    anyway.http://www.billingsgazette.com/newde...anmissiles.inc

    Quote-
Col.-Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky, first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces, gave few details about the device tested Wednesday, but said it was a hypersonic vehicle - one that moves at more than five times the speed of sound - that could maneuver in orbit.
A weapon based on the craft could use that maneuverability to dodge missile defense systems, he said.
"The flying vehicle changed both altitude and direction of its flight," Baluyevsky said at a news conference. "During the experiment conducted yesterday, we have proven that it's possible to develop weapons that would make any missile defense useless."

Like the time when Nixon was loosing the plot don't think the US Military is fast asleep- Gen. Sanchez showed they are FAR from happy. Another General before him Gen. Pace said a war with Iran would be tantamount to WWIII.

The Russians are just as gung-ho about the Middle East at the moment.
One of their new Aircraft Carriers is steaming in the Med and in the Arabian
Sea. The Russian fleet has a new home thanks to Syria as well. The Blackjacks
have received new updates proported to allow penetration strikes deep into
Early Warning Defenses in Europe, Canada and of course Australia. As for
where the Russian submarine fleet is. If only you could answer that question.
    They have been too quiet.

This is 1961 all over again. I wonder if anyone will flinch this time
    Sadly I don't think so.

Personally I would not have the courage to do such a thing. The weight
alone in his conscience is huge Im sure. Damned if you do and damned
if you don't. If Japan for not for the A-Bomb the invasion of Japan
the casualties would be far higher. But Brigadier General Tibbets
legacy is the daily threat of nuclear war which has only gotten
closer lately. Unlike Hiroshima and Nagasaki few strategists would doubt
WWIII would only be a limited nuclear exchange.

    Quote-
A friend of the retired brigadier-general told AP news agency that Paul Tibbets had died after a two-month decline in health.

Gen Tibbets had asked for no funeral nor headstone as he feared opponents of the bombing may use it as a place of protest, the friend, Gerry Newhouse, said.

    Hiroshima explosion
The Hiroshima bomb killed about 140,000 Japanese

The bombing of Hiroshima marked the beginning of the end of the war in the Pacific.

Japan surrendered shortly after a second bomb was dropped, on Nagasaki, three days later.

On the 60th anniversary of Hiroshima, the surviving members of the Enola Gay crew - Gen Tibbets, Theodore J "Dutch" Van Kirk (the navigator) and Morris R Jeppson (weapon test officer) said: "The use of the atomic weapon was a necessary moment in history. We have no regrets".

Gen Tibbets said then: "Thousands of former soldiers and military family members have expressed a particularly touching and personal gratitude suggesting that they might not be alive today had it been necessary to resort to an invasion of the Japanese home islands to end the fighting."

    Quote-
n 1976, Gen Tibbets was criticised for re-enacting the bombing at an air show in Texas.
A mushroom cloud was set off as he over flew in a B-29 Superfortress in a stunt that outraged Japan. Gen Tibbets said it was not meant as an insult but the US government formally apologised.

In 1995, Gen Tibbets denounced as a "damn big insult" a planned 50th anniversary exhibition of the Enola Gay at the Smithsonian Institution that put the bombing in context of the suffering it caused.
He and veterans groups said too much attention was being paid to Japan's suffering and not enough to its military brutality.

ie- the rape of Nanking, Innumerable massacres of civilians, comfort Women, BRUTAL MISTREATMENT of PoW's and the list goes on....

He's too drunk to compare to Putin. He reminds me of a particular member
of the SA- Ernst Rohlm before the night of the long knives.

If a Bear Takes off from the Vladivostok peninsula or alternatively
in the Kurils and gets refuelled over Vietnam it could easily range
for targets in Australia for a security ease-drop off the coast- heaven
forbid a long range cruise missile attack.. If Russia re-opens its bases in Vietnam
fully- such as in Cam Ramh Bay especially.... then get worried.
But wait a second Putin has done a deal with Indonesia...

They have done so in Syria so I don't think thats a remote possibility
    any more.

While we all live in fear of a Nuclear War or being attacked by Terrorists with Nuclear Weapons, who in turn appear to have nothing to lose by such actions in their outlook on life, has anyone heard of another allegedly even more terrifying weapon termed a "Cobalt Bomb"?
Apparently the plans for this weapon are nearly as old as the first Atomic Bombs. Once exploded it lives on oxygen and as long as oxygen is available it just keeps on going. It is assumed to be so devastating Globally it would mean the end to all life on Earth. Apparently they couldn't take the chance to test fire it in the open obviously and decided not even to take the chance under controlled conditions. So it remains only in theory. If there is any truth to it then it must be the ultimate doomsday weapon. Sometimes I think we humans are totally insane?

Humans are insane George we spend so much on promoting death and destruction compared to life and liberty. All that money developing these
creatures of doom could have been spent on far more worthwhile things.

The only thing I could consider nuclear weapons being good for anything
is zapping big asteroids. But now as you know DARPA has developed far
more deadlier weapons since the nuclear weapon from the first Manhattan
project. Cobalt bombs, Positron nukes and antimatter weapons would
turn war into a complete nightmare. It certainly shows humans have
a death wish contrary to their beliefs and ideals which they we hold so dear.

    Hi.
Yes I agree with you. Some of the latest weaponry is like science fiction material but it is fact instead of fiction. Like you say if all the effort and money was put into doing good for mankind we would probably have cures for all known diseases by now. The trouble is whenever you speak out about the absolute lies told that promote the reasons for these weapons you get tagged with a leftwing looney title. Then few listen to your concerns.

    Regards to you

Im neither right nor left. Both opinions of the left and the right
are directly opposed to one another and as a result counterproductive
to those they serve. Both need strong complexes for societal frameworks
and ideologies and neither gives you free will. You have on the right-
Hitler's epitome of 'might is right' and Lenin's (another German)
saying in the same words 'death to all who oppose us- the
proletariat. We had a world war from the last one and within
3 years another one soon. Perhaps thats why the Australian defense
forces are spending so much when a geopolitical change
could affect much, much more. We have not spend so
much on guns and ammo since WWII.

Russia is moving more troops in European sphere to give NATO
some sleeples nights. Hopefully the noise of Foxbats over
    Oslo will be sight.

My favorite Russian General says he may attack the US by accident

Looks like the Soviets want their Warsaw Pact states back.
Well, just now ask if you need the Berlin Wall put back up

    Quote-
"The firing of an anti-missile rocket from Poland could be seen by Russia's automated system as the launch of a ballistic missile, which could provoke an answering strike," Itar-Tass news agency quoted Baluyevsky as telling a news conference.

Russia objects to the U.S. missile defence shield, which Washington says is designed to protect against missile attack from "rogue states" such as Iran.

Baluyevsky said that written U.S. proposals concerning the shield were inadequate. He also said that Russia and the United States were locked in a "direct stand-off".

"This ... direct stand-off, has unfortunately not been taken off the agenda by my colleagues in the Pentagon," Interfax quoted Baluyevsky telling reporters.
