Default 1997 ford transit motor cooked

My son has cooked his transit motor. 2.0 lt petrol manual.
We have been told that it might be cheaper..better to put a different motor in it. Like a another ford or a commodore v6. Was just hoping someone out there might have experience or opinions on this
    Thanks in advance

    welcome southy to the forums.

hmm a commodorre v6 would fit but then the electrics, wiring and ecu would be painful and expensive to convert and be engineered so. Id just stick with the existing motor or shoehorn that turbo diesel motor in. My friend has a 03 transit with that and it seriously-pulls. Should be a relitiverly easy changeover to this
different ecu that should be it and a sensor or two.

What would be the hassles with putting a diesel in the van... would gear box and stuff be okay..
Found a website that sells conversion kits for commodore to transit...so must be done a bit for them to bother

    Transit gear is stupidly expensive

The 3.8 v6 and gear box is a good and reasonably priced swap

Gat Gardner makes a complete conversion kit
    as do Castlemain Rod shop
