I have a 2000 series UQ Explorer. After easily replacing the lower front ball joints for $76 for the pair, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I was told FORD was the only supplier for EOM upper control arms, as the after-market upper ball-joints only fit after-market...

Here's the new North American Explorer in a sand pit.
My 2004 XLT (same as all the others!) has the selector button showing 4x4 low, 4x4 high and 4x4 auto. The Ford manual is vague on the exact difference between each mode, it just suggests which is best for each driving situation.
4x4 low is pretty obvious, but what exactly is the difference...

I have a 2000 UR Ford explorer (10/99 build). A front lower ball joint is starting to wear and I want to replace the ball joint. Ford only offer the ball joint as a complete unit. Is it possible to replace only the ball joint with an after market part or should I buy the complete Ford part?...
I thought it would be interesting for people to post up the cost and location of their service as to help others decide what to expect and where to go.
Your help would be appreciated.
OK, the important part of the new Explorer to Ford Australia fans is the power of the 2.0 Ecoboost,
176 Kw@ 5,500 and 337 nm torque 1,700 to 4,000...
Look out Holden SIDI 3.0, the Ecoboost 2.0 I-4 is coming after you.......
Begs the question... Will it be done in RHD, and with that, will it come here?
I'm going to guess it won't for the time being - otherwise it too will step on Territory's toes...
Obviously it's not the easiest to make out due to the coverings but it's promising. Note the steering wheel from the Fiesta. I guess we can expect to see that in the Falcon. I actually quite dislike the FG's wheel so I'm happy with that.
I think the quality of the buttons appears better. Even the...

Well it looks nothing like the concept:
Most of you are probably aware of the guy who went on a 50km+ ride claiming that his cruise control was stuck on...etc and didn't stop until he was on the wrong side of the road facing down oncoming cars.
Well, the car was a late model Ford Explorer and the Police went over the car and couldn't...
(Crain’s) — Ford Motor Co. plans to add 1,200 jobs when it begins making the Explorer sport-utility vehicle at its Far South Side factory on Torrence Avenue later this year, Crain’s has learned.
Gov. Pat Quinn is due to join Ford executives when they announce the Explorer production at 9 a.m....

Mine seem to be the only one's of late, maybe the Administrators could find some of the individual threads & put them under this threads heading (please). They don't have to be out...
The car is in getting a new motor at the moment can't wait to get it back its over at peters ( off ebay ) getting it fitted.
My mother has had a red Explorer for a good few years and it has clocked up 123,000. Over the period of the ownership the bonnet gas struts have died, they apparently could not be re gassed and new ones were $300 approx from Ford. Then it was a tyre recall and finally, the other day the engine...
I know have no job, no maney , and know no car . I drop a rod and cracked the block. I drove it home and know its seized.

Am looking to get a 7 seater 4WD and have come to the conclusion that unless you are prepared to cough up 30K+ for a Prado/Pajero/Pathfinder (Have heard hideous things about the Patrol 3.0D motor) that an Explorer is the way to go. Am looking for a UT onwards (prefer a Limited), but...
I just need your advise about buying this car at $5000. I want to know its regular maintenance, transmissions issues, engine, fuel economy etc.

My 2004 XLT Explorer has Cooper Discoverer ATR tyres on just now, which seem to suit my driving profile pretty well - 90% plus on sealed roads, with a few excursions onto gravel track, ski roads etc each year.
When I got the explorer a year ago, all tyres had about 9mm tread on them. Now, after...
HI I have a 97 Explorer and have just been told by my mechanic that I am up for a new motor due to the Plastic timing chain tensioner disintergrating I have done some research and have found that in USA this componant was subject to a recall I have spoken to Ford Australia who have stated that...
Ford's all-new Explorer based on the D3 platform was meant to be released next year although things have been delayed. One reason may be due to Ford directing resources to other projects or modifying drive trains, or, and this is my pure speculation (it's 03:41 in the morning), they're looking at...
Anyone read the Sunday Mail's story regarding a possible UT model problem with the auto actuator & electrical circuit?
Ah well looks like I'm having a bit of a cold (warms fine) start-up prob, when cold runs rough for 5 to 15 sec's then fine. When I unhooked the airfilter & flow switch 1st start-up ran fine.
Process of elimination going on here, 1st I changed the air filter-no go, so next I'll check the air flow...
I just finished putting on extended (by 4") shackles for a 2" lift & a TBTwist. My torsion bars are "B" rated which makes them the stiffest/hardest ones. They go from "L" soft to "B" hard. Makes a hell of a difference, the mrs can only just see into the X now (suffers from ducks disease).
