Hi, I have a '95 EF Falcon and it drives ok around town and always starts first time.
My problem is the car starts to missfire at about 100kph after about driving 20minutes down the highway.
The fault lasts a while then clears then comes back after a few minutes and this will continue for the rest of the journey. the car has done 200,000k's, Any idea's what may cause this?

I do know that EFs had ****y coil packs but it might be as simple as a clogged fuel filter or something....

My EL did the same. It was plugs.

Sounds like ignition related to me. I would also check the Ignition leads if they haven't been replaced lately.

It's so frustrating isn't it!, when do you call it quits and buy a new car. I've pretty much done the same as you, as well as $850 at the Ford center to tell me they can't find the fault. I will let you's know if I ever solve this.
Thanks for all your replies.

Just a thought Tony, has this car had the head gasket replaced at any time?
Is it using any coolant? How do each of the spark plugs look after it is playing up? One plug may look cleaner as it possibly has coolant entering the cylinder and causing the car to run on 5 cylinders.

A lot of Falcon head gaskets fail at about the 200,000 km mark.

Hi Alfty12, I do top up the coolant (half liter) per fornight, I changed the plugs last week and they're all same colour-brownish/grey. Can't tell you when the gasket was last done but I'll check it out.
