How do I know if the steering recall problem has been fixed on my AU 2 fairmont?
see URL below for the recall notice.

There should be a silver sticker on the inside of the drivers' door, on the lower part of the A-Pillar, near the hinges. Should say "Field Evaluation" or something along those lines. It'll have a Ford logo, and a date or 2 on it.

Here's a pic posted by rud on AFF. You can see the silver sticker there.

yeah, it's something i wish i knew about before i bought my 2000 AU II.
About 20 hours after i left my cash & drove it off the lot, i felt a pretty heavy shudder in the steering, played it safe and pulled into a side street...bam : Power steering gone, the same belt drives the water pump : so within 90 seconds or so the bastard overheated and then shut itself down.

Kind of a pain in the rear end trying to get a towtruck at 7:30 on a sunday morning too...took almost 3 hours. I bought it from a large ford dealership, so it was under a short term waranty, no probs getting it fixed. They replaced the whole problem portion with BA II components.

Still makes my heart skip a beat though, when i'm full locking the wheel in a car park or something - my fellow AU drivers know about that shudder she gives
