Hey Guys,
I have a AUII Futura, and I'm just wondering what the average fuel consummation you guys are getting out of ya AUII. I'm lucky to get 420km some week’s that is around town. My fokes have a BA Fairmont ghia and they get 600Km per a week. Any idea’s on how to get more Km out of a tank.

Thanks guys,

I'd say thats pretty bad dude. I'm presuming it's a 6cyl. My 5.6 engine tipping around 1900kg on the road gets constant 12.5 L/100km and on trip gets down as low as 9.6L/100km averaging 10.5 to 11 per 100km on trips. If you had a small 65 litre tank at these figures (which is what you probably should aim to at least equal) you should be around the 500km mark per tank normal driving.

Hope this gives some sort of a helping guide.

In inner-suburb Melbourne, ~16.0L/100km. So the trip computer says. I'm getting about 420L to the tank also.

And I wouldn't say I'm driving it in anger, either.....

Mine get's 10 km\l highway and round town is much poorer 420 k's from the 80 L tank (ute) wouldn't amaze me. I'd say it isn't as bad as my old 6 becuase it could manage 260 k's out of 70L around town if kept nailed.

I just brought a 99 au Fairlane 6cyl in Brisbane and got an avarage 11.5 on premium fuel driving back to Townsville. I thought that was good considering my 6cyl nc fairlane was a fuel pig.

I get around 10lt/100km or about 700km per tank with my ute
(82lt tank) mostly highway and some town(70%/30%). I could it down to
8-9lt/100km if I drove not so hard, but where's the fun in that

In my V6 AU1, I get 450-470km off 70 litres of LPG (~$35) around the suburbs, is that good?

watto,

Firstly, it's an Inline 6, not a V6. :)

Secondly - for gas, that's fantastic! Most get about 350-400 out of a tank of gas around town!

Just worked it out on the last tank, 13.8L/100km around suburbia Melbourne.... Computer must have worked out my driving (I notice it in the shifts, too).

I drive my AUIII like a ***** most of the time in the city(hard on the pedal at the lights an up hill-never break speed limit thought!!) so i only get 350 in town if im lucky but on the highway i recently done a 500odd K trip and used half a tank.

i can reach adelaide with 3/4 of a tank and by the time i've gotten to my folks place (half hour-45 mins off highway) im down to half if not less.

Yep, that sounds about right. I have an xr6 series III with adaptive shift tranny & VCT motor. I drive half highway and half city and it is using about the same, however I do tend to drive it a little hard.

My DF V8 LTD gets 400+ on LPG local driving.

Some AU owners claim to get 900kms to the tank of petrol, theres a thread on it. how, i dont know. must be on the freeway.

But it all depents on the driver and their habits, acceleration hard or soft, coasting etc.
It depends on the geography of where you drive, lights, humps, hills ect.
It also depends on the maintenence of the car, plugs, leads, fitlers, injectors, and AIR FILTER. especially on LPG.

My AU Fairlane is a pig on fuel around town but pretty good sitting on a 'GPS' 100 kph. Town driving short trips about 13 (gently) and highway 9.4ltrs/100

I don't know whether it makes a difference but I've always treated my motors with E80 anti friction once they've loosened up and the car is serviced 'by the book.'
Also I run the tyres at slightly higher pressure than the unloaded weight recommendation.

consmption sounds bout right, as for the anti friction stuff, ive never used it. never had a car for more than four years so i just use oil.

Theoretically, anti friction is a waste of money because it only helps if there's metal to metal contact and in a properly lubricated motor, there shouldn't be.

However, I did have a Magna that lost all its oil after the service mechanic failed to tighten the timing chain cover. The oil splashed out over about 400 kms. I'd treated the car previously with Nulon and cutting a long story short, the engine went on to more than 120,000 and never showed signs of the abuse. It's still being driven around town. I think the anti f was doing something.

I feel that anti friction prevents wear when the engine is being started cold - that second or so before the oil pressure rises. $60 or so every 80,000 is cheap insurance.

My 1999 AU Forte wagon consistently gets over 800klm if doing hwy driving
Engine has 230k on clock and l have owned it sinse new,but.........on the other side of the card. When driven around town, the best l can get is between 600 and 650.
The car is undoubtably heavy and it uses much energy to get it off the line, but once moving,it does 100k at about1800rpm,which isnt all that much above idle, hence the good economy on open roads

My 2001 AUII Futura wagon does 500-550km on a tank of ULP. 25km each way up the freeway to work & back.
Strangely it only does 450km in economy mode. Anybody know why ?

New member, hi Ford people. bought Au series 1 xr6 3 years ago 118000k, from mate auto broker cost price $9000 bargain. Fell in love with it. SS cold air intake,Pacemaker exhaust, lowered , 5spd, what could a Ford nut want for the price. Being a Ford man all my life I was so impressed with the AU XR6that I decided to do a test. (My wifes EA got wiped out due to an engine fire caused by my neglect of a power stearing leak above the alternator. This was an ex Taxi that we bought 11 years ago and got a further 250000kms from it with 1 head fix + usual maintenance repairs, and of course on gas )

As we needed a replacement my best man ownes a taxi management company an I asked him for a good cab coming off after the 6 year period. We selected a Series III AU Wagon Dedicated Gas (wait for it 830,000kms). Why?. This one had recent trans, radiator, exhaust, brakes, etc done. Good body well kept. Runs smooth as silk , we share the same mechanic and we have a spare engine ready to go (we want to see how log it will go). So with this bit of history and back to the subject of fuel consumption.
My AU I XR6 petrol 550kms city cycle 840kms country 68Ll Wifes AU III Wagon 625kms (115L Gas tank) Hwy To be tested Keep u posted
